Dr. Chris DeRienzo

Chris DeRienzo, MD, MPP, is a neonatologist and proven physician executive with nearly two decades of board and health system leadership experience. He currently serves the American Hospital Association as Chief Physician Executive, where he is responsible for developing strategies and resources to improve health outcomes in support of the nation's hospitals and health systems. He also serves as the President of the AHA's 501(c)3 affiliate HRET, which aims to transform healthcare through research and education, and as an Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at the Duke University School of Medicine. Before joining the AHA, Dr. DeRienzo most recently served as the System Chief Medical Officer and SVP of Quality at WakeMed Health and Hospitals where he had senior executive responsibility for clinical operations across a large integrated safety-net health system. Dr. DeRienzo serves on the Board of Directors of Mednition, and has previously served in Board or Board Advisor roles for hospitals, ACOs, and both public and private entities including Premier (NASDAQ: PINC), Mercy Health (Chesterfield), and the American Medical Association. He an active triathlete and lives with his family in North Carolina.
