Artificial intelligence (AI), especially Large Language Models, can dramatically reduce the quantity of routine manual tasks which currently overburdens clinical and administrative staff across the healthcare system. Examples include manual processing of efaxs, Mychart message routing and response, generation of routine training materials, and updating written knowledge bases. Over the past year, Providence has undertaken an ambitious initiative to identify and address these and other opportunities. While it remains very much a work in progress, we are already seeing legitimate impact associated with these efforts. We aim in this talk to highlight potential use cases for and application of AI to both improve operational efficiency and reduce caregiver burnout over time.
