Dr. Jennifer Barrows is a nurse scientist at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (now a part of Rady Children’s Health in San Diego). She earned a PhD in Nursing and Healthcare Innovation from Arizona State University where she was awarded a doctoral fellowship in healthy aging research. Dr. Barrows has more than 25 years of experience in nursing with a clinical background in critical care. Her research is focused on evaluating the health benefits of integrative, holistic, mind-body interventions. As a yoga teacher and student, she is passionate about studying the impact of yoga on stress, sleep, and other health outcomes. Additional research interests include the use of virtual reality to reduce anxiety in children undergoing surgery; pet therapy to increase physical activity in young people with cancer; and social media messaging to engage adolescents in healthy behaviors. Dr. Barrows is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and a recipient of their Young Investigator Award. She is a member of the Sigma International Honor Society of Nursing, the Association of California Nurse Leaders, the Society of Pediatric Nurses, and the Western Institute of Nursing. She enjoys spending time at the beach with her young boys and their black lab.
