Dr. Sandip Godambe serves as Chief Medical O􀆯icer and Senior Vice President of Medical
A􀆯airs, where he leads systemwide clinical integration, quality and safety strategy,
regulatory a􀆯airs, and provider alignment across Rady Children’s Health’s Orange Countybased
facilities (CHOC). In this role, he oversees medical sta􀆯 activities, patient safety
initiatives, risk and accreditation functions, and clinical operations spanning two hospital
campuses, an expansive ambulatory network, and virtual health platforms. He is also Vice
Chair of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine, where he teaches and develops
curricula in improvement and implementation science, diagnostic excellence, and
leadership development.
An MD-PhD physician-scientist with a foundational background in immunology and
genetics, Dr. Godambe earned his dual degrees from Washington University School of
Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard
Medical School, and a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at the University of
Tennessee Health Sciences Center. He later earned an MBA in healthcare quality from the
University of Tennessee School of Business.
A nationally recognized leader in pediatric quality and safety, he has designed and led largescale
transformation initiatives across three children’s hospitals, achieving measurable
improvements in patient outcomes, safety culture, and equity. Dr. Godambe has authored
more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and book chapters, and is the co-editor
of five books. He has been an invited speaker at many national meetings and organizations
and serves on several journal editorial boards. His research focuses on sepsis, patient
safety, and improvement and implementation science. His academic mentorship has
shaped the careers of dozens of emerging physician leaders, and his recent work has drawn
research funding and enabled multi-center innovation.
A Fellow and faculty member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Dr. Godambe
is also a senior examiner for the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. He holds
national leadership roles with the Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety (CHSPS),
the Child Health Patient Safety Organization (CHILDPSO), the American Academy of
Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the Children’s
Hospital Association (CHA). He is also a member of the American Pediatric Society.
