Mr. Daniel Byrne
Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lecturer
Johns Hopkins Medicine
I am a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University specializing in artificial intelligence in healthcare, biostatistics, and human-centered technology design. With more than four decades of experience in medicine, data science, and teaching, my mission is to ensure that AI is developed and applied in ways that improve patient outcomes, empower clinicians, and respect human values.
At Johns Hopkins, I teach AI in Healthcare, guiding clinicians, engineers, and data scientists to responsibly build and evaluate AI tools with scientific rigor. I am especially interested in how we align AI with the realities of healthcare delivery — balancing innovation with safety and trust.
My career has combined research, teaching, and practical applications. From early work in biostatistics to current efforts on AI alignment in medicine, I have consistently focused on bridging rigorous science with real-world healthcare impact.
I believe the future of healthcare will be shaped not only by algorithms, but by how well we prepare the next generation of leaders to use them responsibly. My goal is to mentor students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to a healthier world through thoughtful innovation.
I welcome collaborations at the intersection of healthcare, AI, and education.
Connect with me if you’re passionate about building AI tools that truly serve patients.
