A nationally-recognized expert in pediatric hematology, Dr. Nugent’s clinical and research interests include all forms of blood disorders, particularly rare inherited disorders. She is involved in a number of clinical trials and is principal investigator for the Region IX MCHB Hemophilia Treatment Program and the Pacific Sickle Cell Regional Consortium representing 13 Western states. A prolific author on innovative medicine, Dr. Nugent has coauthored more than 100 journal articles and book chapters and has been featured in journals including Hemophilia, Blood, New England Journal of Medicine, Thrombosis Research and more. In 2011 , she founded a community based safety net clinic, The Center for Inherited Blood Disorders (CIBD), and in 2019 partnered with SCDF to address the critical shortage of adult centers of excellence in Sickle Cell disease, forming the Networking California Sickle Cell Care Clinics throughout the state. Dedicated to clinical excellence, Dr. Nugent is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology. A respected physician leader, Dr. Nugent was recognized serves to chair review subcommittees at NHLB1/NIH and HRSA Region IX program projects for CMS.
