Before the algorithm: how use cases and workflows shape, AI success in healthcare
Description

Track Chair: David Metcalfe

The path from data to delivery and healthcare AI is often misunderstood. Too many initiatives start with data exploration, or model building before clearly defining the use case, clinical workflow, or last mile of implementation. This talk reframes the conversation: effective AI doesn’t begin with data-it begins with design. We’ll explore why identifying the right use case, understanding the end, user workflow, and mapping where AI fits into existing clinical and operational processes are critical precursor to data creation and model deployment. Using examples from real world deployment, will discuss how premature focus on data and algorithms can lead to elegant but unusable models, while workflow first design leads to adoption, compliance, and measurable impact. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for going from idea to impact-responsibly, efficiently, and human centered
